Homework and Remote Learning
This page will provide information regarding both:
- Weekly Homework Expectations &
- Remote Learning Expectations.
For any further questions please contact your child's class teacher.
Remote Learning Expectations
During a period of isolation, if your child is well, we expect that all children will complete the remote learning activities uploaded onto Google Classroom - the school's virtual Learning Platform. This will involve pupils completing the following tasks daily:
- Maths
- English
- PE (some form of physical exercise)
- and at least one other subject
Pupils are also expected to spend some time every day Reading, playing on Spelling Shed and Timetable Rock Stars - TTRS. (TTRS is for Pupils in Year 2 - 6)
Completed work should be uploaded to Google Classroom for teachers to mark and give feedback.
Tips & Advice
Here are some tips to make your home learning experience successful and enjoyable...
- Play is the best way for very young children to learn, so make up games, do pretending and have fun.
- It's a good idea to take the "little and often" approach to formal home learning, don't expect your child to work for long periods of time (they will hate it and so will you!).
- Keep things light-hearted and fun. If things are getting tense leave it for a while and come back to it later.
- Praise and reward your child if they have had a good go at it but don't expect perfection. It's fine to make a few mistakes.
- Allow your child to choose which activity they complete but try to make sure they do a little bit of everything as time goes on.
- Reading is a fantastic way to learn about new things and should be done daily. Fiction and non-fiction books can be used to provide inspiration for further learning - story/poetry/letter/report writing.
- If appropriate, encourage your child to use Times Table Rockstars or Spelling Shed daily (it only takes 10 minutes) to improve their times tables/spelling skills.
Homework aims to:
• Consolidate and reinforce learning done in school and assist in preparation for future class work - raising achievement.
• Develop good work habits and self-discipline for the future.
• Help parents gain insight into their child’s schoolwork and promote partnership between home and school.
• Provide opportunities for individualised work and develop skill in independent learning.

All pupils will bring home a homework book and a reading journal, along with any reading books chosen from school. Children are of course welcome to read books of their own too.
