Cherry Class

Welcome to Cherry Class!  We are currently made up of 20 wonderful children in Reception, Year One and Year Two. In Class, Miss Dunkerley is our current Class Teacher and we are joined by Miss Tilburn who is a brilliant and experienced HLTA and Cover Supervisor.

Please remember, if you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to ask. Feel free to catch us on the door, e-mail via the school office or arrange a telephone call. We are always more than happy to help!

I have attached a few links below which you may find useful. These are to help with your child's handwriting and reading and are linked to our phonics scheme 'Little Wandle'. If you are unsure about this then please do ask!

Learning this term

During the first half term, children will be learning ‘How Am I Making History’. Within this topic, children will learn about their own personal chronology. They will find out about the past within living memory by examining photographs and ask questions. They begin to look at a simple timeline extending back to before they were born.

In the second part of the term, pupils will focus on the Geography topic ‘Why is Our World Wonderful?’ Children will learn about the world’s wonders, the names and locations of the world’s oceans and considering what is unique about the local area.

Important Information

Reading

We are passionate about developing life-long readers. In school, your child will be read with three times a week by an adult. Please ensure that your child is reading little but often at home, as well as in school. We encourage you to sign their Reading Records to indicate that they have read at home, with an adult. Please aim to sign your Reading Record at least X3 weekly. The children will bring home two reading books each week. One will be from our Little Wandle reading scheme if in Reception/Year 1 or Collins Big Cat in Year 2, this book is swapped on a Monday. The other book will be one of their own choice from the school library, this book will be swapped on a Friday. Please ensure your child has both books with them on their reading day each week so they can swap them.

Spelling

For Year 1 and 2 Spelling is taught through the Spelling Shed scheme and children use the app or online platform to practise every week for homework. Their log ins are in their reading record. Alternatively, they can practise with the worksheets sent home. Each Monday, your child will be tested on their spellings and they will be given their new spellings/homework.

P.E.

Our PE day is Tuesday. Children should come to school wearing their P.E. kit.
